That bursting at the seams folder is what months of adoption paperwork looks like. I have surprisingly managed to stay organized these last few months (at least in this aspect of my life). Oh, and that FedEx envelope peeking out from behind it isn't there anymore, because it is on it's way to the USCIS office in Texas. :)
Well, on Friday, July 1st we received our home study rough draft. Yippee! All updates and corrections have been provided to our social worker and we are expecting to receive our 4 notarized final home studies next week. I will then FINALLY be able to mail the FedEx envelope I have carried with me for 2 months to US Immigration. The immigration approval and trip to Fort Smith for fingerprinting will be our last step before completing the paper chase. I have heard this part of the process take anywhere from 4 weeks to 4 months, so I'm trying not to get my hopes up and set a goal DTE (dossier to Ethiopia) right now.
In other news, our agency just increased the referral wait time. Again, this is something that we have been expecting. The wait time between DTE and referral for an infant girl is now 11-18 months (previously 7-11). It is so funny to think during my pregnancy that 9 months seemed to take forever...that wait seems like nothing now! This update also came with some good news that MOWCYA has again increased their daily recommendation letters to 15, so we will take that and rejoice in the movement that is still happening every day in Ethiopian adoptions! |
